Odd Ends, Odds and Ends, and Ends are Odd.

A random smattering of thoughts while taking in Monday Night Football…
The Bills really played an excellent game yesterday. Everyone is gushing about Roscoe Parrish’s kick return, and that was awesome, but personally, I love the fake field goal call! It may be rose-colored glasses, but I swear that during the “glory years” of the Bills in the late 80’s and early 90’s, they used to run those gadget and trick plays all the time, with great success. Then the next progression of coaches got away from that, and now Dick Jauron and Bobby April are bringing it back. Even better, according to Ryan Denney, they were actually sitting on that play, and were going to run it earlier in the game! Love it!
Speaking of football, I jumped into a just-for-fun fantasy league with Pat and Jodi and a couple of their friends, and even though it’s only been 1 week, I love it! It was an auto-draft (which to me is better and more equitable), so its up to you to tweak the roster once you get it, whoever you end up with. Of course, I had a pretty good team right off the hop, including Tony Romo, Randy Moss, and Marshawn Lynch, but I’m really enjoying the aspect of catching highlights of other games to see how your players have done, how this weeks opponents’ players have done, etc. I end up paying attention to the other games more, as opposed to just the Bills. I think I may have to set up a fantasy hockey league this year, what with all the games I watch there!
I’ve been playing with Google Chrome for awhile now, and I generally like it, but one of the oddest things is how it’s a little goofy with Google’s own (RSS feed) Reader. If you scroll down in the reading pane, it will sometimes also scroll down in the feed list pane, which is kind of annoying. Also, the “sandbox” concept that they’re pushing generally works (I’ve had Flash crash once or twice and it just affected that tab), but it seems like if something holds up processing on one tab, it paralyzes the whole browser until it either finishes, times out, or whatever. The machine isn’t frozen (you can alt-tab out of the browser), but you can’t switch tabs, which sucks. Plus I’m not sure if I’m fond of the combined search and address box yet. My jury is still out on that one.
Does anyone else think that Labatt has the best marketing gimmick ever, putting hats inside the 2-4 cases? I thought the Sabres hats were a smart idea, I liked the retro Labatt logo hats (even though I didn’t get one of those), and I just killed two birds with one stone on Sunday, picking up a 2-4 and since I wanted/needed (yes, it’s a need!) a new Bills hat, I’m all set! I realize that Labatt moved their U.S. distribution to Buffalo due to something like a full 25% of all beer sold in WNY, but still, they know how to pander to their target market!
NHL2k9 for the Wii comes out tomorrow! Finally, a real hockey game for the Wii, and the promos make it look like it’ll fully utilize the wiimote and the nunchuck attachment. Can’t wait! (Can’t wait for hockey season either… but more on that in a future post!)
