Random things while tracking today’s Woot-Off (hopefully ending with a bag of crap!)…

This past weekend we were down in Horseheads to do some early Christmas shopping, but also to check out the opening night of Ain’t Misbehavin’ at the Clemens Center in Elmira with Tiff’s parents. This production was notable for featuring Ruben Studdard and Frenchie Davis of American Idol fame. Third row seats make anything good, but it was a great show, and all of the singers were damn good. We had a blast!

Team Fraggernarkle is 5-1 through the first two weeks of volleyball this session! Hopefully we can keep that going. Wednesday nights have become party nights at Hot Shots, as Tiff’s team also plays Wednesday nights, and they’ve been one time slot ahead of us so far, so by the time we’re done, their team is usually holding down a table (and a couple beers) for us.

Why do the Bills and Sabres suck so bad lately?

The SanDisk Sansa’s I received in the bag-of-crap have been working quite nicely, refurbs or not. I picked up a dock that I’m currently using in the car with the e260, with great success. Throwing rockbox on these players makes them even more versatile.

I brought home my two Coleco table hockey games from the parents house two weekends ago. I’ve yet to clean them up and make them playable again, but that’s on the agenda soon. Those games are a riot, and will have to suffice until I’m independently wealthy and can afford a SuperChexx. :)

A couple weekend updates while watching Tampa lose to the Caps…

Since Tiff was off to NYC with Rebecca for the weekend, I decided to scoop up Wizard and shoot home to NT for the weekend and hang out with the family. Got home just in time for lunch (naturally!), and then I helped (read: got in the way) clean up the basement a bit. As mom and dad hit the Corvette Club meeting, I met Adam out for dinner at a place in Depew called Kentucky Greg’s Hickory Pit. Kinda like a Dinosaur BBQ or a Sticky Lips, but on a smaller scale. After some good eats, we made our way back closer to his neighborhood to watch the Sabres game at Gordon’s on Delaware Ave. So as we watched the Sabres lose, we were joined by a couple of Adam’s friends. We then transferred much closer to Adam’s place, ending up at Mr. Goodbar, where we were suddenly underdressed; the bar got overtaken by what we can only assume was some kind of frat/sorority mixer, as they all came in dressed up. Riiiiiiight. Nevertheless, I had a great time people watching, and just hanging out with Adam and his friend Dan.

Sunday was a slow day, chilling at home, watched the Bills lose (at least my fantasy team did okay!), we did some maintenance on the corvette site, messed around with the cable box, and then it was time to head to Grandma’s for dinner, as we celebrated my uncle’s birthday. Wizard came too, so he was quite the travelling kitty this weekend. We headed home in the rain, and thus ended my relaxing weekend with the fam…

I’m glad for a couple of things at the end of this election cycle: I’m glad there was a clear cut winner this year, not court wrangling over vote counting. I’m glad McCain was gracious in his concession speech. I’m glad people actually came out to vote, as opposed to all the apathy of the last couple elections. And considering that Obama is the winner, I’m glad he won without the help of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, who seem to thrive on divisiveness, and now can’t take any of the credit for his victory.

As I said before, half the country is gloating, half the country thinks the apocalypse is upon us. But hey, the world is still spinning, the sun came up, and we have a new President-elect. Who happens to be black. Obama is not the second coming, nor is he the devil incarnate. I watched the Obama love-in on CNN last night, and now at work I’m watching the Fox News talking heads digest what happened. These are the best reality shows on TV, watching equal parts euphoria and confusion/anger.

So yes, there’s going to be change. But for all the hoopla regarding change, he is, after all, still a politician. There isn’t going to be change overnight, maybe not even in the next four years. Even though the House and Senate have a Democratic majority, that doesn’t mean smooth sailing. In fact, I think it’s going to be four more years of the same old shit, but the hope is that maybe, just maybe, that shit will smell just a tad bit better. So good luck Barack, because I have a feeling that if we all thought the last 8 years were something, we haven’t seen anything yet. I don’t know what’s in store, but I know it’s gonna be interesting as hell.
