Review: After Soul Coughing came to an end in 2000, Mike Doughty struck out on his own playing shows, and sold copies of Skittish, which he’d recorded in one day in 1996 but never saw the light of day. A purely acoustic record, it’s a great low-key listen. With the touring and one solo album under his belt, Rockity Roll was recorded in 2003, again with the acoustic stuff, but this time backed with some drum machines and the like. It marks the original appearance of 27 Jennifers, and also live favorite Ossining. ATO put both of these albums together in one package at the end of 2004, along with a couple of extra tracks and some live stuff, and here we are. This two disc set for 10 bucks is a hell of a deal for the content!
