You Mean The World Didn’t End?
By Woopop | November 5, 2008
I’m glad for a couple of things at the end of this election cycle: I’m glad there was a clear cut winner this year, not court wrangling over vote counting. I’m glad McCain was gracious in his concession speech. I’m glad people actually came out to vote, as opposed to all the apathy of the last couple elections. And considering that Obama is the winner, I’m glad he won without the help of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, who seem to thrive on divisiveness, and now can’t take any of the credit for his victory.
As I said before, half the country is gloating, half the country thinks the apocalypse is upon us. But hey, the world is still spinning, the sun came up, and we have a new President-elect. Who happens to be black. Obama is not the second coming, nor is he the devil incarnate. I watched the Obama love-in on CNN last night, and now at work I’m watching the Fox News talking heads digest what happened. These are the best reality shows on TV, watching equal parts euphoria and confusion/anger.
So yes, there’s going to be change. But for all the hoopla regarding change, he is, after all, still a politician. There isn’t going to be change overnight, maybe not even in the next four years. Even though the House and Senate have a Democratic majority, that doesn’t mean smooth sailing. In fact, I think it’s going to be four more years of the same old shit, but the hope is that maybe, just maybe, that shit will smell just a tad bit better. So good luck Barack, because I have a feeling that if we all thought the last 8 years were something, we haven’t seen anything yet. I don’t know what’s in store, but I know it’s gonna be interesting as hell.
